Gas supply to improve by Saturday morning: Petrobangla

Gas supply to customers is expected to improve by Saturday morning after bad weather disrupted the transfer of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) to floating terminals in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, Petrobangla said.

The disruption caused the country's overall gas supply to fall by around 300-400 million cubic feet per day since Thursday, leading to shortages from household cooking stoves to CNG filling stations in Dhaka.

In a press release, Petrobangla said the LNG transfer process from a cargo to a floating terminal was scheduled to begin on Thursday but could not take place due to adverse weather.

According to Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL), the transfer of LNG from two cargoes to the two floating terminals began on Friday.

The company said the gas supply situation at the consumer level would improve by Saturday morning.

Petrobangla currently receives around 2.3 billion cubic feet of gas daily through the national grid.

The state-owned energy company expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond its control.
