Dr Shafiq calls on partymen to shun illegal earnings

Sylhet, Sep 25: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said good governance cannot be established without implementing what he described as “Allah’s law” in the country.

“Jamaat-e-Islami is one of the leading political parties seeking the implementation of Allah’s law in Bangladesh,” he said.

He made the remarks while addressing the concluding session of a two-day ‘Rukon’ (member) training camp organised by Sylhet city Jamaat at an auditorium in the Madina Market area of Sylhet city on Friday.
Dr Shafiqur said party leaders and activists should treat people with dignity and strengthen their engagement with communities.

“Speaking to people with respect is a strategy. To increase public engagement, we have to stand beside people and expand our social and humanitarian activities,” he said.

He urged party officials to improve their qualifications, skills and leadership abilities and remain connected with people’s needs and difficulties.

He also called on party members to prepare themselves to take part in future local government elections based on qualifications, competence and timely decision-making.

“There is no alternative to acquiring the qualifications and skills necessary to discharge responsibilities in the future,” he said.

The Jamaat Ameer also stressed financial integrity and ethical conduct among party members.

He urged them not to harbour thoughts of illegal earnings and to maintain transparency in business and financial transactions. He also called for respectful treatment of parents, spouses and other family members and urged party members to uphold the rights and dignity of every member of society.

Calling for a disciplined organisational environment, Dr Shafiqur said party members should demonstrate responsibility, mutual cooperation and compassion while standing beside people in their times of need.

The programme was presided over by Jamaat central working committee member and Sylhet city Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam and conducted by city secretary Mohammad Shahjahan Ali.
