Tamim to meet B'desh women’s cricketers over captaincy issue

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal is set to meet with the national women’s cricket team ahead of their upcoming tour of Australia.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday at 3pm and will also be attended by the chairman of the BCB’s women’s cricket department.

The meeting comes after Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty faced criticism following the team’s defeat to India in the semi-final of the most recent Asia Cup. Following the defeat, Joty informed the BCB by email that she no longer wanted to captain the team in T20 internationals.

However, Joty subsequently led Bangladesh at the Asian Games, where the team failed to make a significant impact and returned without a medal.

The Bangladesh women’s team are scheduled to travel to Australia on October 3 for an ODI series.

Joty’s future as T20 captain is expected to be a key topic of discussion at Monday’s meeting. Although she has communicated her decision to the BCB, the board has yet to formally accept her request.

The upcoming meeting is therefore expected to provide greater clarity on the leadership of the women’s team ahead of their Australia tour.
