Sheikh Hasina can not return to Bangladesh: MP Azad

NARAYANGANJ, Sept 27: Narayanganj-2 (Araihazar) MP Nazrul Islam Azad has said former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can not return to Bangladesh, warning that those allegedly trying to create unrest in anticipation of her return are “making a grave mistake”.

He made the remarks while addressing a protest rally at Shahid Manjur Ahmed Stadium in Araihazar upazila on Saturday.

Azad, the chief guest at the rally, said, “Those who are trying to create chaos in the country thinking that Sheikh Hasina will return are making a serious mistake.”

“There will be zero tolerance for any further attempt at violent or disruptive activities,” he said, warning those allegedly involved in such activities to remain cautious.

“Let the people of this country live in peace and move around freely,” he added.

The rally was organised to protest what the organisers described as planned attempts to create unrest across the country.

Praising the incumbent government, Azad described Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as a humane leader and claimed that he had already won the hearts of ordinary people through various development and welfare-oriented initiatives.

He also challenged those allegedly organising small processions in secluded areas of Narayanganj and other upazilas to hold such programmes in Araihazar.

“If you have the courage, come and do it in Araihazar,” he said, adding that the people of Araihazar would resist what he described as the “ghosts” of the Awami League “at any cost”.

Azad urged people to maintain peace and said there should be no scope for activities that disrupt public life.

Local social and political leaders and people from different sections of society attended the rally.

Earlier, a protest procession was brought out from the area and passed through several roads before ending at the rally venue.
