20+ cocktails, petrol bombs recovered in Dhaka

More than 20 cocktails and petrol bombs have been recovered from the old trade fair ground in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
The Special Response Battalion (SRB) carried out a drive at the site on Monday afternoon following a tip-off. The area was cordoned off after the explosives were found.
The SRB’s bomb disposal unit reached the spot and began work to neutralise the explosives, said Additional DIG Naimul Hasan, commander of SRB-2.
He said the explosives were recovered during the operation and the bomb disposal unit was called in to safely neutralise them.
Squadron Leader Nifaz, who was present at the scene, said several explosives were found inside a bag. Some of them had already been neutralised by the bomb disposal unit, while the remaining explosives would be taken to a location away from the public before being neutralised.
Law enforcement personnel have cordoned off the area and restricted public movement for security reasons.
It was not immediately known how the explosives were brought to the site or who was behind them. Further details are expected after the recovery and disposal operations are completed.
