Government will be responsible for unrest in CHT: Santoshit Chakma

Parbatya Chattogram Jumma Refugee Association General Secretary Santoshit Chakma has warned that the government will be responsible if unrest develops in the Chittagong Hill Tracts unless their demands are implemented immediately.

He made the remarks at a press conference in Rangamati on Monday, organised by civil society representatives from across the CHT.

Chakma alleged that land grabbing has continued in the region and demanded immediate implementation of their demands and cancellation of several committees related to CHT affairs.

Speakers at the press conference also called for reviewing government decisions related to the 1997 CHT Accord and demanded steps to resolve the region’s issues politically. They warned that failure to properly implement the accord could further complicate the situation.
