DINAJPUR, Oct 1: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have recovered several rare black touchstones, sandstone and white stone fragments in separate raids in Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts, with a seizure value of Tk 1,29,90,000, officials said on Thursday.
The haul included one 87.1-kg sandstone fragment, one 30.7-kg white stone fragment and three other rare touchstone fragments weighing 35.6 kg, 16.8 kg and 18.6 kg in Chandohar area of Pirganj, while one 35.6-kg rare touchstone fragment in Tenapara area of Setabganj.
The Department of Archaeology has confirmed that the recovered fragments are archaeologically significant, BGB said.
Dinajpur Battalion Commander Lt Col Abdullah Al Moin Hasan said BGB would continue intelligence-led operations to protect the country’s archaeological heritage and prevent the smuggling of antiquities.
