Two people were injured when two cocktails exploded as supporters of two rival groups prepared to clash over local dominance in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Friday.
The incident occurred in the Shekhtola Pionpara area of Maharajpur Union in the morning.
According to police and local sources, supporters of banned Awami League leader Odud Mohoril and former union parishad member Jalal Member have long been at odds over establishing dominance in the Shekhtola and Kabirajpara areas.
As part of the dispute, supporters of the two groups gathered with cocktails and locally made weapons to engage in a clash, the sources said.
Police went to the spot after being informed and tried to bring the situation under control. As some people attempted to flee after noticing the police presence, two cocktails exploded, injuring Sumel and Abdul Hamid.
One of them reportedly suffered partial amputation of a hand.
Police later conducted a raid in the area and recovered 11 fresh cocktails.
Ekaramul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, said the two groups had been in a long-standing dispute and tried to clash over a minor issue.
Police brought the situation under control and the situation was normal, he said, adding that legal action would be taken after identifying those involved and completing the investigation.
Earlier on September 28, several cocktails exploded simultaneously at a house near the Narayanpur border in Sadar upazila. On February 14, two people were killed in a cocktail blast in Charbagdanga.
