Jamuna Fertiliser Company has resumed urea production after remaining shut for eight months as gas supply to the plant has returned to normal.
The Jamuna Fertiliser Company Ltd in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur resumed production after gas supply was restored to the country's one of the largest fertiliser plants.
The plant's Managing Director Afaz Uddin confirmed the resumption of production to media at around 11:30AM on Tuesday (October 6).
According to factory sources, gas supply to the plant was suspended on February 15 this year, forcing it to halt urea production.
The Jamuna Fertiliser plant produces around 1,700 metric tonnes of granular urea daily. The fertiliser is supplied to 19 districts under its command area, including Jamalpur, Sherpur, Mymensingh and Tangail.
The resumption of gas supply after a long period has brought relief among the plant's officials, employees and local residents.
Fazlul Haque Ratan, head of the production department at Jamuna Fertiliser, said the current gas pressure would allow the plant to produce around 1,200 metric tonnes of urea daily.
He said daily production could rise to 1,350 metric tonnes if the gas pressure increases further.
Confirming the resumption of production, Managing Director Afaz Uddin told media that urea production restarted at 3:00AM on Monday (October 5).
