The government is considering introducing a dengue vaccine to reduce deaths from the disease, but has no immediate plan to approve or introduce one, State Minister for Health MA Muhit said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks at a dengue-related programme at Holy Family Hospital in Dhaka.
The state minister said dengue infections could reach their peak this month and urged people to remain alert to prevent the spread of the disease. He also said the Local Government Division was working to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae.
Muhit said the country’s healthcare system would not improve simply by making big statements in the media, stressing the need for planned development.
BNP Standing Committee member Prof Farhad Halim Donar, who attended the programme, said the dengue situation could not improve unless Aedes mosquitoes were brought under control.
