
A discussion was held in Narayanganj on Tuesday to mark Children’s Rights Day 2026 and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, with speakers stressing the need to ensure a safe and better future for children.
The discussion, held under the theme “Let the children’s future be secure” took place virtually from 9:30am to 11:30am at the conference room of the Narayanganj deputy commissioner’s office.
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md Raihan Kabir chaired the programme.
Among others, Narayanganj City Corporation Administrator Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Mashukul Islam Rajib, Civil Surgeon Dr Sakhawat Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Naima Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police Tasmin Akter PPM, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Ali Nur Khan, Department of Women Affairs Deputy Director Vikarunnisa Begum, Mahanagar BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu and students from different educational institutions attended the programme.
The speakers stressed the importance of ensuring a safe and better future for children, along with education, sports, cultural activities and opportunities to develop their creative talents.
They called on everyone to play a responsible role in ensuring that children grow up in a healthy and supportive environment.
The speakers also encouraged children to raise environmental awareness among adults, particularly by discouraging people from throwing waste and garbage indiscriminately.
In his speech, DC Md Raihan Kabir said, “Today’s children are tomorrow’s Bangladesh. The 50th anniversary of Shishu Academy is a matter of pride for us. Protecting children’s rights is the moral responsibility of the state as well as all of us.”
He stressed the need to ensure a safe, beautiful and discrimination-free future for children and said their intellectual development should be supported through education, healthcare, sports and cultural activities.
“Children should especially be developed as environmentally conscious citizens so that they can also make adults aware,” he said.
The DC said the district administration would continue working for the welfare of children.
