Storm leaves roads blocked by fallen trees in Jamalpur

A sudden storm wreaked havoc in several areas of Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur on Thursday afternoon, uprooting numerous trees and disrupting traffic on the Bakshiganj-Sanandabari Road.

The incident occurred around 4:30PM as strong winds swept through several areas, including Sarmara, Tangaripara, Morarpara, Gopalpur and Dhararchar under Bogarchar Union. Several trees fell on roads, while roofs of houses and various structures were damaged. No casualties have been reported so far.

Trees fell at several points along the Bakshiganj-Sanandabari Road, completely halting vehicular movement and leaving vehicles stranded on both sides of the road. Local people were also left stranded due to the disruption.

Residents of the Noyamiyar Bazar area, said strong winds suddenly began in the afternoon and numerous trees fell on the road before people could react, bringing communication to a halt.

Officials of Bakshiganj Fire Service, said trees had fallen on the Bakshiganj-Sanandabari Road due to the strong winds, disrupting traffic. A fire service unit was working to clear the fallen trees and restore road communication as soon as possible.
