Four more people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to Saturday, bringing the death toll to 299 this year.
Another 1,631 patients were admitted to hospitals during the period, taking the total number of hospitalisations to 97,082.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released the figures on Saturday, October 10, through its dengue dashboard maintained by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
The four latest fatalities included two men and two women, according to the DGHS.
Of the 299 deaths recorded this year, women accounted for 51.9 per cent and men 48.1 per cent.
Monthly figures show that two people died in each of January and February, while no deaths were recorded in March or April. One person died in May and 13 in June. The toll rose to 36 in July and 43 in August.
September saw the highest monthly death toll, with 148 fatalities. Another 54 people died in October as of Saturday. The highest single-day toll this month was 10, recorded on October 6.
In terms of regional fatalities, 80 people died in hospitals under the Dhaka South City Corporation, 36 under the Dhaka North City Corporation and 17 outside the two city corporations in Dhaka division.
Khulna recorded 61 deaths, while Chattogram and Barishal reported 26 each. The toll stood at 23 in Mymensingh, 21 in Rajshahi, six in Rangpur and three in Sylhet.
A total of 17,462 dengue patients were hospitalised in October as of Saturday, compared with 43,774 in September.
Earlier monthly figures showed 1,081 hospitalisations in January, 409 in February, 353 in March, 640 in April, 714 in May, 2,907 in June, 9,206 in July and 20,536 in August.
Of the patients hospitalised this year, 89,380 have been discharged.
