Police arrested 864 people in a 24-hour drive across 11 districts under Chattogram Range to curb various crimes, including juvenile gang activities, mugging, extortion, terrorism and drug trafficking on Sunday (October 11).
During anti-drug drives, police seized 14,148 yaba tablets, 12.938kg of cannabis and 9.5 litres of locally made liquor, according to Chattogram Range Police.
Of those arrested, 140 were held under arrest warrants, while 26 were arrested under warrants for serving sentences. Police also arrested 74 drug users and 67 drug dealers in drug-related cases.
Authorities sentenced 53 people to jail through mobile courts during anti-drug drives and collected Tk 5,700 in fines. A total of 51 drug cases were filed.
Police also arrested 18 members of banned organisations and detained 368 people in drives against juvenile gangs. Of them, 306 were handed over to their guardians after signing bonds, while legal action was taken against the remaining 62.
