A hidden pirate arms cache has been discovered deep within the Sundarbans, where 14 firearms, among other things, were recovered and seized.

Fifteen members from two factions of the 'Alif Bahini' surrendered during a joint force operation. Afterwards, a follow-up operation, acting on information provided by them, led to the recovery of 14 firearms and a large quantity of other equipment.

Major Md. Nazmul Islam, Deputy Commander of SRB-6, disclosed these details during a press briefing at the agency's headquarters in Khulna on Monday.

He stated that the joint force operation in the Sundarbans began on October 7. On October 9, the 15 members of the Alif Bahini factions surrendered in an area adjacent to the Ar Gangasia River. They were unarmed at the time of their surrender. However, based on the information they provided, SRB-6 conducted an intensive, sweeping search across various remote areas of the Sundarbans.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 14 firearms, 274 rounds of live ammunition, 23 spent cartridges, seven walkie-talkie sets, and six bulletproof jackets. SRB reported that the weapons had been buried in various locations within the forest three to four months prior.

The operation took two days to complete, as the team had to navigate the challenges posed by the tides. SRB-6 has urged other pirates in the Sundarbans to abandon their criminal activities and surrender, while simultaneously warning of strict legal action should they continue to commit crimes.
The joint force has affirmed its commitment to continuing operations to rid the Sundarbans of piracy.
