NARAYANGANJ, Oct 12: A fire destroyed goods stored in 30 garment waste warehouses in Bilashnagar of Fatullah in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila early Monday, causing losses estimated at around Tk 1 crore taka, according to warehouse owners.

The fire broke out around 2 am on Monday. Six firefighting units brought it under control after about 90 minutes, officials said.

Warehouse owners Imran Hossain, Zahir and Sohel, along with workers, said the fire started in one warehouse and quickly spread to neighbouring facilities. Each warehouse contained garment waste fabric worth an estimated Tk 5 lakh to 20 lakh, they said.

Many warehouse operators run their businesses with loans from banks and nongovernmental organisations, the owners said.

Abdullah Al Arefin, Deputy Director of the Narayanganj Fire Service, said firefighting units from Mondolpara, Hajiganj and Shibu Market responded to the blaze.
