West Indies players Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford have each received one demerit point for separate breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct following their team's second T20I against India in Ranchi last Friday.
According to the ICC, Powell struck the ball with his bat after being dismissed off Mayank Yadav in the sixth over. The act breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers the abuse of cricket equipment.
Rutherford was penalised for showing dissent at an umpire's decision. The left-handed batter shouted at the umpire in the 13th over after a delivery was not called wide. His actions breached Article 2.8 of the code, which relates to showing dissent at an umpire's decision.
Both players admitted to their offences and accepted the sanctions imposed by match referee Prakash Bhatt. No formal hearings were required.
