Dear Sir,
Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College in Gazipur, established on 18 November 2013 as Gazipur Medical College and renamed on 6 August 2014, is reportedly facing serious management problems. Patients, including those requiring emergency care, face long queues and must wait in an unhygienic environment infested with bedbugs and other insects.
The hospital lacks separate arrangements for different types of patients and a designated breastfeeding room. Long waits for lifts, unclean washrooms, poor bed management and male patients staying in the children’s ward further worsen the situation. Doctors reportedly arrive late and fail to examine patients properly.
The authorities appear to respond mainly when government officials visit. Such negligence in a government hospital is unacceptable. I urge the government to investigate these allegations and take immediate steps to improve cleanliness, discipline and medical services so that patients receive safe and dignified treatment.
