Although the Bengali calendar currently marks the month of Ashwin, early signs of winter have already begun to sweep across several northern districts, including Panchagarh and Thakurgaon, while cold northern winds have started blowing through the capital, Dhaka.

However, citizens may need to wait over a month to experience the full impact of winter, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

BMD Meteorologist A K M Nazmul Hoque stated that a distinct winter feel is expected to be felt across most parts of the country, including Dhaka, from the third week of November, alongside a gradual drop in temperatures.

Analyzing weather patterns over the past four to five years, he noted that the cold spell is likely to persist until February next year. During this period, temperatures in the capital could drop to between 11°C and 13°C.

"Winter is likely to arrive in the northeastern and northwestern regions of the country as early as the first week of November," Hoque said. "However, most areas will feel the winter chill from the third week of November. Cold intensity will increase in December, with peak severity expected in January."

He added that day temperatures are expected to rise again after mid-February.

Meanwhile, the country's lowest temperature was recorded in Panchagarh's Tetulia at 19.3°C on Tuesday (October 13), followed by 19.5°C on Wednesday (October 14).

Conversely, Dhaka recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5°C on Tuesday. Meteorologists observed that despite the onset of northern winds, dense population and urbanization in the capital will delay the noticeable onset of winter until the third week of November.
