Youth killed in Joypurhat road mishap

JOYPURHAT, Oct 15: A 26-year-old man was killed on Thursday in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in the Karai Factory area on the Joypurhat-Akkelpur road.

The victim, Bikash Chandra Karmakar, was the son of Bablu Chandra Karmakar of Telihata Karmakar Village in Gabtali Upazila of Bogura District.

According to police and local sources, Karmakar had travelled from Bogura to Joypurhat town’s Purba Bazar to meet his brother-in-law and help coordinate Puja arrangements. 

While returning home by motorcycle, he collided head-on with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction at high speed and died on the spot.

Following the crash, angry local residents blocked the road by placing tree trunks across it. Police arrived shortly afterward, brought the situation under control and restored traffic movement.

Officer-in-Charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui confirmed the death, saying police recovered the body and that legal procedures were underway.
