Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals in the Mecca region after a court convicted them of committing an immoral act inside a mosque, the Ministry of Interior announced on October 14.
The ministry identified the individuals as Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, according to a report by Saudi-based online news portal Ajel.
According to the statement, security authorities arrested the pair and formally charged them following an investigation.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed the Saudi government's commitment to maintaining security, upholding justice and enforcing Islamic law against those who violate the sanctity of mosques or commit immoral acts.
It also warned that similar offences would carry legal consequences.
