Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed that he spoke directly by phone with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa following Israeli strikes on Damascus in July 2025.
Speaking at a conference with members of the Druze community on Thursday (October 15), Netanyahu said the brief conversation took place amid violence against Druze people in southern Syria. He claimed the killings stopped following the call.
Netanyahu also pledged to protect the Druze community and said further work remained to be done. The disclosure marks the first publicly acknowledged direct contact between the leaders of Israel and Syria.
