Government offices, banks and the stock market will remain open on Saturday, October 17, despite it being a weekly holiday, to adjust the holidays for Durga Puja.

The Bangladesh Bank has issued a directive to keep banks open on Saturday. Normal trading will also continue on the stock market as part of the holiday adjustment.

Banks will remain closed for three consecutive days from October 20 to 22 for Durga Puja. With Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, being weekly holidays, the closure will extend to five consecutive days.

The Ministry of Public Administration announced the Durga Puja holiday schedule in a notice issued on October 7. October 20, Tuesday, was declared a holiday by executive order on the occasion of Maha Navami, while October 21, Wednesday, was declared a general holiday for Bijoya Dashami. October 22, Thursday, was also declared a holiday by executive order.

Saturday’s opening of government offices, banks and the stock market is intended to compensate for the holiday on October 22.
