Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury has said Kushtia will be developed as a tourism and industrial hub while preserving the legacy of Baul mystic Lalon Shah.
He made the remarks at the opening of Lalon Shah’s 136th death anniversary festival in Cheuriya, Kushtia, on Saturday.
Highlighting Lalon’s humanist philosophy, the minister said the government was working to preserve cultural heritage and promote tourism and industry.
He also criticised the previous Awami League government, alleging it had damaged the country’s financial and industrial institutions over the past 18 years.
Cultural Affairs Ministry adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman attended the event as the guest of honour, while Professor Dr Rashidul Nabi delivered the keynote speech.
