Info Commission gets Chair, Commissioners after 2 yrs

Finally after more than two years, the government has appointed a new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and two information commissioners to the Bangladesh Information Commission.

Prof Dr Nahreen Islam Khan of the Department of Geography and Environment at Jahangirnagar University has been appointed Chief Information Commissioner, while journalists SAM Mahfuzur Rahman and Khan Mohammad Abul Hossain have been appointed Information Commissioners.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued two separate notifications announcing the appointments on Saturday (October 17).

According to the notifications, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir appointed them under Section 15(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2009.

The notifications also stated that the government would determine the rank, remuneration, allowances and other benefits of the Chief Information Commissioner and the Information Commissioners.

Earlier, the ministry formed a selection committee to recommend candidates for the three posts.
