Following Fakir Lalon Shah’s humanist philosophy is essential amid global wars and unrest, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said on Monday.
He made the remarks at a discussion marking Lalon’s 136th death anniversary at Chheuriya in Kushtia.
Amit urged people to overcome divisions based on wealth, religion and political beliefs through love, respect and tolerance.
He said the celebration would be meaningful if people applied Lalon’s teachings in daily life. Speakers also highlighted the relevance of his philosophy in combating social divisions and intolerance.
The three-day programme brought together Bauls, devotees, researchers and cultural enthusiasts, with Lalon songs performed after the discussion.
