Naval Police recovered the half-decomposed body of an unidentified man, aged approximately 51, from the banks of the Turag River in Tongi under Gazipur City Corporation on Tuesday night.

The body was recovered from the Protyasha Field area along the Turag River on Tuesday (October 20) night, though the identity of the deceased remains unconfirmed.

Police stated that local residents spotted the body lying on the riverbank in the Protyasha Field area under the jurisdiction of Tongi West Police Station and notified law enforcement. Upon receiving the news, police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body.

Tongi West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Arifur Rahman noted that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, with tissues sloughing off due to severe decay. Authorities could not immediately confirm how long the body had remained in the river, leaving the exact time and cause of death uncertain.

Naval Police registered an unnatural death case in connection with the recovery. The body has been sent to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, while efforts to establish the deceased's identity are underway.
