A powerful explosion was heard in Yemen’s southern city of Aden after the Houthis launched a missile attack on the government-controlled city on Wednesday (October 21).
Al Jazeera’s correspondent and a police official reported hearing the blast. A police officer said smoke was seen rising near Aden airport, which is under the control of Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
The government uses Aden as its temporary capital, while the Houthis control the capital, Sanaa. Last week, the group also fired a missile at the presidential complex in Aden.
Al Jazeera correspondent Maha Ali reported that the Houthis targeted Aden airport with a ballistic missile.
Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had targeted the Yemeni forces’ military operations room at Badr Camp in Aden, claiming the strike was precise and direct.
