An armed gang vandalized a warehouse of AJR Parcel and Courier Service Limited and looted equipment worth around Tk 31 lakh following extortion demands in the capital's Hazaribagh area on Tuesday evening.

According to officials and security staff, a group of 70 to 80 individuals arriving on 20 to 25 motorcycles forcibly entered the warehouse, destroying CCTV cameras, server rooms, and office equipment. Witnesses reported that several attackers brandished firearms and heavy weapons during the raid.

Afsar Uddin, Manager of Human Resources and Administration at AJR Courier, lodged a written complaint with Hazaribagh Police Station on Wednesday evening against 70 to 80 unidentified individuals. The complaint stated that the attackers identified themselves as associates of "Captain Emon" and demanded control of the warehouse along with rent money.

Visiting the site on Wednesday afternoon behind Zainul Haque Sikder Women's Medical College and Hospital in Rayerbazar, regular operations were seen resuming amidst police investigations. Security personnel noted that the attackers arrived around 6:30 PM on Tuesday, broke the front gate CCTV cameras, and scaled the perimeter walls after terrifying the security staff.

According to the police complaint, the group broke into the office and server rooms, looting core networking equipment, routers, NVR devices, 38 hard drives, 40 cameras, computers, laptops, and cash.

Company officials stated that the premises are leased under an agreement with the Sikder Group. However, the attackers demanded that future rent payments be handed over to them. Earlier on October 18, unidentified men on motorcycles had threatened security guards, followed by phone calls from an individual named Saiful, who claimed to represent "Captain Emon" and demanded extortion money.

Afsar Uddin told reporters that the attack and looting were carried out strictly for extortion, noting that the gang had been issuing threats for days prior to the incident.

Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that a group ransacked the office and stole electronics and CCTV equipment. He added that police are gathering video footage and technical evidence to identify the attackers and track down the caller, Saiful, while the process of filing a formal case remains underway.
