Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partha stated on Wednesday (October 21) night that the government is working through the Cyber Security Act and relevant legal frameworks to control fake news while maintaining freedom of expression.

Speaking to journalists after visiting several Durga Puja pavilions in Bhola, the minister emphasized the necessity of maintaining a balance between preventing false or misleading information and safeguarding freedom of speech.

"We are consulting with stakeholders, including media owners, to address the challenge of fake news," Partha said, adding that misinformation, decontextualized news, and distorted facts represent a global challenge rather than an isolated issue in Bangladesh.

He expressed optimism that a mature consensus and policy framework would be established soon.

Regarding communal harmony, the minister remarked that the nationalist government believes in coexistence and mutual respect. He assured that the government is committed to ensuring a safe environment where people of all religious faiths can live peacefully together.

During his tour, the minister visited multiple Puja venues across Bhola, including the Bikash Majumder Bari, Anujkahali Lane, Madanmohan Temple, Western Para Shatadal Bikash Club, Mihirlal Saha Bari, Laxmigobinda Temple, Bappa Mahajan Pole, Bapta Shakti Sangha, and Circular Road pavilions.
