BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused the banned Awami League and an unnamed political party of jointly engaging in conspiracies and spreading misinformation against the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He alleged that the behaviour and rhetoric of the two groups resembled each other, claiming that they continued to spread propaganda against the BNP as they had done in the past.
Rizvi made the remarks on Thursday afternoon at a rally in Dhaka’s Shantinagar following a dengue awareness leaflet distribution programme.
“The Awami League was a party that spread misinformation. Now another covert party has joined it. There is evidence of a connection between them.''
He also alleged that members of the unnamed party had previously expressed willingness to forgive the Awami League, adding that the conduct of what he called the defeated political forces was similar.
Rizvi recalled what he described as past propaganda against the BNP, including allegations that the party was linked to militancy and that religious minorities would be unsafe if it came to power.
He claimed that the government led by Tarique Rahman had demonstrated that conspiracies could be thwarted through vigilance and effective governance.
Rizvi said BNP leaders and activists had worked around the clock to ensure security at Durga Puja venues across the country.
He claimed that Sharadiya Durga Puja had been celebrated in a more peaceful and festive atmosphere than at any point in the past 17–18 years. Visitors from neighbouring countries had also praised the arrangements, he added.
Speaking about dengue prevention, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the government and the BNP had undertaken coordinated initiatives to address the outbreak.
He said awareness leaflets prepared with guidance from prominent doctors were being distributed among the public, providing information on dengue prevention and advice on what to do if someone becomes infected.
According to Rizvi, the prime minister had directed government hospitals to provide free dengue testing to ensure patients could access medical services without financial barriers.
He also said adequate supplies of intravenous saline had been ensured and extensive cleaning drives were underway across the country.
Rizvi also highlighted the government's economic initiatives, claiming that it was committed to implementing its promises.
Citing economists, he said the distribution of Family Cards and Farmers' Cards introduced by the government would reduce the country's poverty rate by a further five percentage points within the current year.
“This is a major achievement of Tarique Rahman's government.''
