MAGURA, Oct 23: Two men died at Magura Sadar Hospital early Friday after falling ill following a drinking session with friends in Sreepur Upazila of the district.
The deceased were Alamgir Laskar, 42, son of Azam Laskar of Makardamkhola Village, and Bidhan Biswas, 28, son of Binod Biswas of Malda Village in Sreepur.
Relatives said the two drank alcohol with friends on Wednesday night, during Bijoya Dashami celebrations, near a public Durga temple in Jaria Village. Both fell ill shortly afterward. Alamgir was taken to the hospital at around 5:30 am on Friday and declared dead on arrival. Bidhan, who was admitted in critical condition late Thursday night, died while receiving treatment early Friday.
Police said primary information suggested excessive alcohol consumption may have caused the deaths. The bodies were kept at the hospital’s temporary morgue, and an investigation was underway to establish the exact cause.
Hospital emergency physician Imran Hossain said the cause of death cannot be confirmed until the autopsy reports are available.
Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station Oli Mia confirmed the matter.
