19 banned BCL activists arrested in Dhaka

Police arrested 19 activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) while they were preparing to stage a procession near Baitul Mukarram Mosque in the capital on Saturday (October 24) evening.

Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrests.

He said police had received intelligence that Chhatra League leaders and activists might hold a procession in the Baitul Mukarram area. Based on the information, surveillance was intensified in the area.

The 19 were arrested when they began preparing for the procession, the OC said.
