Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members allegedly crossed into Bangladesh and attacked farmers near the Burimari border in Patgram, Lalmonirhat, on Saturday evening.
Local farmers said the BSF personnel ordered them to leave their fields and attacked them with sticks. The farmers chased them, prompting the BSF members to throw cocktail bombs and sound grenades and fire several blank rounds before retreating into India.
A BGB patrol team reached the scene and strongly protested the incident. BGB-51 commander Lt Col Muhammad Shahinul Islam said a flag meeting had been requested.
The BSF claimed the incident stemmed from a dispute over stone extraction. An investigation is underway.
