Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded army deployment for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election scheduled for October 29, alleging administrative bias and violations of electoral rules.
A six-member delegation led by the party's Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar raised nine complaints and placed three demands before Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at a meeting in Dhaka on Sunday.
Parwar alleged that local officials and law enforcement agencies were not acting neutrally. He also accused a rival candidate's supporters of intimidating voters, attacking Jamaat activists and violating the electoral code of conduct.
The party submitted photographs and other evidence to support its allegations, including claims of campaign activities by a public official and threats against Hindu voters.
Parwar said increasing the number of law enforcement personnel alone would not ensure a fair election unless those responsible acted impartially.
He added that Jamaat had not decided to withdraw from the race and remained prepared to contest the election, calling on the Election Commission to ensure a fair voting environment.
