Hanging of Magura Jubo Dal leader’s murderers demanded

MAGURA, Oct 25: Relatives and residents on Sunday demanded the death penalty for Rony Shikder, arrested in the murder of local Jubo Dal leader Shaker Hossain, and called for his expulsion from the Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal committee.

Protesters gathered outside the Magura District Judge Court before marching through key town streets and ending at Chowrangi intersection. They alleged that Hossain had been deliberately shot dead and demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of everyone involved, including any additional suspects.

Shaker Hossain, senior joint convener of Magura Municipal Jubo Dal, was found shot dead inside a Royal Express transport counter at Magura central bus terminal on the morning of October 21 while on duty.

Police arrested Rony Shikder, a member of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal convening committee, and Shamima Tabassum Lubna on suspicion of involvement. A court order sent both to jail on October 22. Shaker Hossain’s wife, Sharmin Nahar Ruma, filed a murder case against unidentified suspects.

His family said the killing had left his wife and two young children facing an uncertain future. Protesters called for a thorough investigation, a speedy trial and the maximum punishment for those responsible.
