Food Minister’s APS removed over unauthorised visit

The government has formally relieved Food Minister Afroza Khanam’s Assistant Private Secretary (APS) Md Abdul Awal of his duties for visiting a government food warehouse without the minister’s approval.

The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification on Monday, stating that the decision was taken in line with the minister’s wishes.

Awal visited the Nagarpur Upazila Food Controller’s office and food warehouse in Tangail on October 11 without informing the minister. A tour schedule for the visit had been issued on October 8, signed by the minister’s personal officer Md Rafiqul Islam.

In a separate order, Md Mizanur Rahman was appointed as the minister’s new APS, with a monthly salary of Tk 32,540 under the 2015 pay scale.

His appointment will remain effective as long as Afroza Khanam serves as food minister or wishes to retain him in the post.
