The Bangladesh Bar Council has decided to set 35 as the maximum age for candidates seeking enrolment as lawyers, with the new limit scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2030.
The decision was announced in a public notice issued on Tuesday, October 27, and signed by Bar Council Secretary Mohammad Kamal Hossain Sikder.
According to the notice, the decision was taken in line with a resolution adopted at a Bar Council meeting held on August 19.
However, to protect the interests of students currently pursuing LLB degrees, the council has deferred implementation of the age limit until the beginning of 2030.
From that date, the prescribed maximum age will be applied when accepting applications for enrolment as lawyers, verifying candidates' eligibility and carrying out subsequent enrolment procedures.
The notice said the relevant authorities would take the necessary steps to ensure compliance with the new age limit from the effective date.
The deferred implementation is intended to take the interests of current law students into account while establishing a uniform maximum age for entry into the legal profession.
