Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Tangail highway resumed on Monday afternoon (November 2) following a five-hour blockade by protesting readymade garment (RMG) workers demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel alongside other law enforcement agencies deployed sound grenades to disperse the demonstrating workers from the thoroughfare, successfully restoring normal traffic flow by early afternoon.
Earlier in the morning, workers from various garment units took to the streets across the Konabari, Sofipur, Mouchak, and Pallibidyut areas of Gazipur, erecting blockades that brought all vehicular movement along the key highway to a complete standstill. Attempts by security forces to persuade the workers to clear the roads led to several rounds of chase and counter-chase.
