Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad has sought a one-month extension to explain his remarks over the judicial proceedings of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), citing his illness with dengue.
He submitted the time petition through his lawyer to the tribunal on Wednesday, the day he was scheduled to appear in person to explain his remarks over alleged financial transactions in the tribunal's judicial proceedings.
On Sunday (November 1), a three-member judicial panel of Tribunal-1, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, summoned Fuad suo motu over allegations of contempt of court. The panel directed him to appear in person on November 4 and explain his comments.
Fuad made the remarks at a recent AB Party programme, alleging that 'bags and bags or crores of taka' were being exchanged in connection with the tribunal's judicial proceedings.
Taking note of the comments, the tribunal issued a contempt of court notice on its own initiative.
State counsel Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim earlier told journalists that Fuad had been directed to appear before the tribunal on November 4 to explain his remarks.
Earlier, two other lawyers were also summoned over allegations of contempt of court for making derogatory comments on social media about the tribunal's proceedings and verdicts.
