Seven people were killed and three injured in separate accidents in Jashore District, Bagatipara Upazila of Natore District and Brahmanbaria and Gopalganj districts in two days.

JASHORE: Three people were killed and another critically injured in two separate road accidents on the Jashore-Khulna highway in Abhaynagar Upazila of the district, between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Two victims, Abdul Samad Biswas and Abdul Wahab, were killed around 9 am on Wednesday after a speeding vehicle struck their van near Bhairab Bridge while they were crossing the road. Both were taken to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

In an earlier crash around Tuesday midnight, motorcycle rider Abdullah Al Apan was killed in a head-on collision with a truck in the Prembagh Urotola area. His passenger, Hossain Ali, was critically injured and admitted to Khulna’s Gazi Medical College Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Abhaynagar Police Station (PS) Lutfor Rahman said legal proceedings were underway in connection with both accidents.

BAGATIPARA, NATORE: A 59-year-old tea vendor died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Tuesday night, 16 hours after being struck from behind by an electric three-wheeler in Bagatipara Upazila of the district.

Amiyo Kumar, son of late Kartik Sarkar, was heading to his tea stall at Biharkol Bazar around 4 am on Tuesday when the vehicle hit him. He was initially taken to Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died around 8 pm.

Police said Kumar’s nephew, Ashit Kumar, filed a case under the Road Transport Act with Bagatipara Model PS on Tuesday night. Investigators have collected CCTV footage of the incident as evidence.

BRAHMANBARIA: Two people were killed and two others injured, including a two-year-old child, when a battery-powered auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a passenger bus on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway in Brahmanbaria on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 4:45 pm in the Pirbari area of Paschim Medda. The deceased were auto-rickshaw driver Zainal Abedin, 45, of Bijoynagar Upazila, and Juthi Akter, 22, of Sarail Upazila.

Akter’s husband, Zakir Hossain, and their two-year-old son, Zainal Ahmed, were injured in the crash. The auto-rickshaw was heading towards Ghatura when it collided with a TA Paribahan bus travelling from Mymensingh to Brahmanbaria.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, where Akter was declared dead. The driver later succumbed to his injuries.

Officer-in-Charge of Sarail Khatihata Highway PS Abdul Alim confirmed the casualties, adding that both vehicles had been seized. The bodies were handed over to the families after legal formalities, and a case is being processed.

GOPALGANJ: A 35-year-old van driver was killed in a four-vehicle collision at Bhatiapara intersection in Kashiani Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Shahidul Islam, son of Amin Sheikh of Charbhatpara Village, was crushed under the wheels of a Dola Paribahan bus and died on the spot around 7:30 am.

According to eyewitnesses, a Dhaka-bound Emad Paribahan bus from Khulna attempted an illegal turn at the intersection and first collided with a covered van.

The impact pushed the covered van into a parked Dola Paribahan bus, which then crashed into another local bus. Shahidul’s motorised van was nearby when the collision occurred.

Kashiani Highway PS Sub-Inspector Md Rajib confirmed the incident but said details were still unclear as the accident had occurred shortly before.
