Rajshahi militants hoodwinking cops

RAJSHAHI, May 14: The local militants of Rajshahi region are hoodwinking the law enforcement agencies by not staying in the same place for long time and involving themselves in different type of professions.
However, the local police authorities are highly concerned about the matter, some police officials told the Daily Observer on Saturday.
They said at least 50 people from this area were still untraceable but police is trying to nab them to protect the area from any kind of unexpected militant attack.
Khurshid Alam, DIG of Rajshahi Range, said they were gathering information from different sources about the missing persons who were trying to reorganise militants in the Rajshahi region and the police authorities were regularly conducting drives to arrest them.
He also said, "Some missing militants were traced in recent time while some people have recently gone missing without any trace. So it's hard to say how many people are exactly involved in militancy in the area, but we remain alert in this regard." Police sources said due to recent operations in different areas of the region including Chapainawabganj and Natore have disorganised the militants as three of their fellows have died in Chapainawabganj, five in Rajshahi, and four were arrested from Nachol Upazila of Chapainawabganj.
Chapainawabganj police is continuing their operation following the arrest of militants from Nachol and Shibganj militants den in recent time. Rajshahi police is also conducting raids based on information from Sumaiya and her husband Jahurul Islam arrested at Godagari.  TM Mojahidul Islam, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chapainawabganj, said after getting order and information from PMO, they had started conducting operations in different areas of the district that ended with successes.  
"Only one of the arrested is a student while all others are in different occupations. They don't stay in the same place for long time and change their professions quickly to hoodwink the police", the SP added.
While talking to our correspondent, police officials said most of the militants are from poor families and they were being motivated to join militant activities.
