Neela quits NCP 'on moral grounds'

Neela Israfil formally announced her resignation from the National Citizen Party (NCP) alleging the party fosters a culture of impunity and silence in the face of injustice, particularly in matters of gender-based harassment.

In a scathing statement issued via her verified Facebook account on Monday, she declared that she was severing all ties with the party citing moral and ethical grounds.

"I am choosing morality, not corrupt politics," Neela wrote in her post. "NCP is a political party where criminals are not tried, where silence is maintained on behalf of the criminal even after a woman is harassed. I cannot stay in that place for even a moment."

She questioned the ideological integrity of the party stating, "When no punitive action is taken against a person who has insulted, oppressed and tried to socially destroy a woman, rather he roams around under the party's umbrella that party no longer represents any ideology or justice."
