Fisherman drowns in Kurigram River


A fisherman drowned while fishing in a river at Bhurungamari in Kurigram district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Jhontu Majhi, 36, son of Shamsul Haque from Paikerchara union of the upazila.
According to the family members, Jhontu went to the Dudhkumar River near the northern side of Sonahat Bridge early Monday morning for fishing.

At around 8am, another fisherman, Abdul Mannan, spotted the boddy and immediately informed the local residents, who then notified the police.

On information, police recovered the body.

The family said that Jhontu had a heart condition, which may have caused him drowning.

Bhurungamari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ruhul Amin confirmed the death matter and added that the body has been handed over to the family as there were no complaints filed.
