Bangladesh Railway awarded two youngsters -- Shihabur Rahman Shihab and Liton Ali -- who averted an imminent train accident near Arani Railway Station in Rajshahi. Railway West Zone organised a function at the divisional office at Pakshi where the children were given flowers, crests and cash money.
Shihab is only six years old; Liton Ali, seven. Shihab is a first grader and Liton a second grader of Jhina Govt. They have made the headlines saving an oil-laden train. On 11 December, they were roaming about in their village. They saw a train streak by with a loud peal of noise. Later they discovered the railway track has been damaged. After a few moments, they saw another train coming, which would cross the damaged track and was doomed to face an accident.
Shihab and Liton decided to stand on the track and fly their muffler to warn the train driver about the impending peril. The train driver, K M Mohiuddin, understood their signal and stopped the train outright. Later on, station master of Arani, Noyon Ahmed, came to the place and congratulated the boys heartily. Ashim Kumar Talukder, divisional railway manager, said they see the bravery of the two children in a positive way.
Later they were accorded a big reception at Rajshahi Railway Office. Railway officials took the two boys along with several of their relatives to Pakshi. They were firstly received with floral wreaths. Later, they shared their experiences of escaping the possible train accident at a discussion programme. State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar said they will be given one thousand taka per month and other scholarship to study in their school.
The two boys are now familiar on the social media as 'muffler heroes'. The local people are also making accolades for the heroic deeds of these young boys of their village. District commissioner Helal Mahmud said that using their presence of mind, the two children averted an imminent train accident near Arani Railway Station in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi.
Loco pilots who noticed the signal stopped the train around 20 metres away from the fragmented tracks. They foster patriotism in their heart which told them instinctively to save the train from the accident. The district commissioner also thanked the State Minister for Foreign Affairs for taking the responsibilities of these two boys' education.
After their reception by Bangladesh Railway, the villagers of Arani are very happy. UP chairman, Rafiqul said that the boy is endowed with ready wit and this saved a big accident from occuring and helped resources of our country. Many villagers are now flocking to these boys' home to congratulate them. They are also taking photos with these two heroes to commemorate their great deed.
