All set to welcome New Year

The nation is set to celebrate the 31st night of December, 2017 today (Sunday) as elsewhere in the world to welcome the English New Year-2018.
In the Gregorian calendar, the most widely used calendar system today, New Year occurs on  January 1.
Many cultures celebrate the event amid grand festivity and the 1st day of January is often marked as a national holiday in different countries.
People celebrate the 31st night specially the youth with festive mood and takerich dishes like barbecued mutton.
Marking the day, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has drawn up multi-tiered security measures. It bans holding of any programme at open places for the sake of overall security and maintain law and order, according to a report of DMP's news portal.
DMP permissions will be needed to celebrate the 31st night inside residences. "If you take permission, DMP will ensure security of your programme," the report said.
Police personnel in uniform or plainclothes will be deployed and members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) and bomb disposal team will discharge duties at different city points and places to ensure safety.
Dog squad will sweep important places while sufficient fire tenders and ambulances will be kept at Dhaka University, Gulshan and Banani areas for safety measures.    —BSS
