USAID Administrator Mark Green will arrive in Dhaka tomorrow ( Monday) for a 4-day visit to discuss about the implementation of the "US President's Indo-Pacific Strategy", Rohingya issue with the government policy makers and to distribute USAID funded relief to the Rohingyas living in Cox's Bazar.
To kick-off the much-talked "US President's Indo-Pacific Strategy" with the South-East and South-South countries policy makers, Mark Green will start his first leg of three-nation visit from May 14 to May 23 to Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand, however he will arrive Dhaka on 14 and leave here on May 17, according to the Foreign Ministry.
"The United States continues to persuade Bangladesh authorities to engage in proposed Indo-Pacific Strategy, in which India is a major partner, as a part of its efforts to contain China's influence over the region," an official said.
Although Bangladesh sign agreement with the China on its One Belt One Road initiative, but US want Bangladesh to join with the Indo-Pacific Strategy. However, Dhaka has not given any commitment on Washington but sought detail of the strategy for study, he added.
The proposal comes as Washington works to build up its alliances in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Indian Ocean and the western and central Pacific Ocean, covering nations including Australia and India.
