This election to erase ignominy of Jan 5: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Sunday said voting of the 11th national election was held peacefully across the country except for some stray incidents in a few centres.
The CEC said this at the IES School and College polling centre at Uttara Sector-5 in Dhaka.
As he was asked about the absence of BNP polling agents at the IES School and College polling centre at Uttara Sector-5 in Dhaka where he went to cast his vote he CEC said, "If they do not come then we have nothing to do."
When asked about the scar left by January 5 polls, he expressed hope that the ignominy of January 5 elections will be erased by this polls.
Responding to another question about violence across the country, he said there were incidents of violence in Chattogram and some other places.
Election officials, law enforcement agencies were directed to control violence.
"If the situation goes beyond control in any polling station voting will be held there again," he added.
Replying to a question, the CEC said the election officials and law enforcers were given orders to suspend voting if any centre faces any trouble.
About the absence of polling agents of candidates at some centres, he said the EC has nothing to do about it because appointing polling agents at polling booths is the responsibility of candidates contesting the polls.
Barring a few exceptions, the situation is fine all over the country, the CEC claimed.
Meanwhile, the CEC cast his vote at IES School and College centre in Uttara's Sector-5 at 11.15 am. His wife Hosne Ara Huda also cast her vote at the same centre.
