RAJSHAHI, May, 16: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday instructed the police members to give the highest importance to people's human rights while discharging their duties. "You must give the highest importance to people's fundamental rights, human rights and the rule of law while discharging duties," she said while addressing the closing parade of the 35th BCS batch of assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) at the Bangladesh Police Academy at Sarda in Charghat upazila of Rajshahi. The Prime Minister laid stress on gaining the trust of people by people to eliminate crimes from society through people-friendly activities which is urgently needed. She said, "Our youth are in danger today due to drug addiction. We have to save our society from this menace. "Disciplinary action should be taken against all drug addicts, traders, producers and suppliers. With the help of the people, our police have succeeded in protecting the militants, and we must be successful in protecting our youth from the scourge of drugs." A total of 123 assistant police officers took training in batch of the 35th BCS (Police) cadres. Of them 18 are women. Prime Minister handed over crests to three new police officers, including a woman for achieving excellence in different fields of training, in the concluding parade of the training. Sheikh Hasina said, "The continuous success of Bangladesh police in the fight against militancy is not only appreciated in the country but also in the international arena." She said, "We want to sustain development by ensuring the rule of law and justice in the country. In this case, the role of police is most important." The Prime Minister urged the young police officers to play an active role in implementing 'Vision 2021' and 'Vision 2041' by utilizing the knowledge and experience they have learned with honesty and devotion." She said Bangladesh is a role model of development today in the international arena. "We have successfully launched Bangabandhu-1 Satellite. If the journey of development continues, we will be able to build the dream of the Father of our Nation," Sheikh Hasina said. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, Land Minister Samshur Rahman Sharfi Delu, Textile and Jute Minister Imaj Uddin Pramanik, Foreign Affairs Minister Shahriar Alam, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari, were present at the closing parade ceremony.
