Veteran producer Iftekharul Alam Kislu dead

Veteran film producer Iftekharul Alam Kislu has passed away. The producer started the modern era in Bangladeshi cinema and also contributed for Pakistan's modern film movement with his production 'Sangam.' He breathed his last at the age of 91 on January 5 at 9.35pm. His daughter-in-law Fouzia Alam has confirmed the news. The film producer was admitted to United Hospital with pneumonia and old-age complications. His nephew actor Ahmed Sharif has asked everyone to pray so that the Almighty might grant him a place in heaven.
Iftekharul Alam Kislu was the chief of Star Film Corporation, the largest film production house of Bangladesh before its independence. He produced the first full-length colour film of all-Pakistan in 1964. Named 'Sangam', the film was directed by Zahir Raihan and released in Urdu. Another film by Zahir Raihan, Behula was also produced by Iftekharul. The 1966 film introduced the Razzak-Suchanda screen-couple for the first time. The first Bangladeshi film after independence-Ora Egaro Jon was also produced by him. A number of other notable films produced by him include Anwara, Alibaba, Dui Paisar Alta, Sangsar and more.
Being a producer Iftekharul was also a successful businessman. He was the president of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1979.
